Topical Diclofenac Patch

Cerimon Pharmaceutical’s diclofenac sodium patch is a topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) under development for the treatment of pain associated with musculoskeletal injuries. Oral formulations of NSAIDs currently are marketed worldwide for the treatment of inflammation and pain. While oral NSAIDs are effective, they can cause serious gastrointestinal and cardiovascular adverse events.  Topical formulations of NSAIDs can provide pain relief directly to the affected area without accumulating high levels of the drug beyond the target area, therefore decreasing the risk of such events.

Cerimon is developing a topical patch formulation of diclofenac sodium for the U.S. market with an initial focus on the treatment of pain associated with musculoskeletal injuries. Cerimon’s goal is to offer a patch formulation of diclofenac sodium that requires once-a-day administration and is convenient to use.

The Company currently is conducting Phase II/III studies with its topical diclofenac patch in patients with mild-to-moderate ankle sprains and mild-to-moderate tendonitis and bursitis.
