Simulect®
Simulect® (basiliximab) is a monoclonal antibody that selectively blocks the receptor for interleukin-2 (IL-2). This blockade provides highly targeted inhibition of the T-lymphocyte activation that is involved in serious immune-related diseases. Simulect® currently is marketed by Novartis Pharma AG for the prevention of organ rejection in renal transplant recipients.
Simulect® has shown promising results in an open-label pilot study in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) conducted by the University of Bristol, UK. This data led Cerimon to license exclusive worldwide rights to develop and commercialize Simulect® for the treatment of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Cerimon currently is conducting a Phase IIb study of Simulect in patients with moderate-to-severe, steroid-refractory ulcerative colitis.
Simulect® (basiliximab) is a registered trademark of Novartis.
